Parlors, Porches & Islands is a journey from the 19th-century parlor, to traditional rural players, to Slack Key guitarists in Hawai’i, and on to his my music. Roots can be tough, tangled and gritty, and don’t always reveal what we might expect. Some people might be puzzled at finding the roots of blues and old-time guitar in bourgeois parlor music, but it fascinates me. As Joseph Campbell says, what we have in common is often the most revealing.
